Over the years one game in our LAN area League of Legends has really proven its self as a popular and exciting game to play and spectate, At GottaCon 2014 we have no doubt that it will be one of our largest and most popular events and that is why we are increasing our team cap to 24 teams!

In an effort to build up excitement for this year’s GC 2014 LOL tournament, GottaCon will be teaming up with BC Gamer to run two LOL qualifier events where 8 teams will face off for a chance to win full entry to GottaCon 2014 and our BYOC LAN (value of approximately $375).

Team entry fees are being considered and would be approximately $75 a team (to cover facilities, etc with any unused funds going to a cash pool for the main event at GC2014). Actual details and dates are still being worked out but we are look at two 8 team qualifiers. Now we want to hear from you to see if you and your teams think this is an event you would take part in. We would allow spectators as well if we can accommodate. Please let us know if you would take part.

Please post your responses on our GottaCon page @ <a href="http://www.facebook.com/gottacon"target="_blank">www.facebook.com/gottacon in the thread we have created.

It’s been a while since we posted an update so here is what we are working on for 2014.

The floor plan is being reworked to address space issues in large growth areas. Board games, RPGs and computer LAN will see increases in space and tables. Mini’s and TCGs will remain the same. Exhibitor booths will be the same as last year.

We are also revising the exhibitor booth information package, not much in the way of change here other then we will be moving to a optional direct internet connection option for exhibitors at a small fee due to the fact that wireless just isn’t possible anymore do to signal congestion. The cost of this option will be as low as we can make it. Expect to see exhibitor booths go on sale in mid to late June. Priority will be given to exhibitors that attended our last show.

Sponsorship and advertising package is seeing some significant changes due to a significant printing cost increases and increased printing quantity due to growth.

Our badge registration system phase one is being wrapped up and we are looking at phase two. Phase one was a huge success and we are looking to make it even better.

Ticket price options are being reviewed with the aim of simplifying the options if possible to reduce confusion over what is included in a package.

Website “clutter” is being reviewed with an effort to improve navigation of our site.

Time slot durations is being reviewed with the consideration of moving from a four hour block to a two hour timeslot block due to feedback that some events are shorter and with the current structure and event registration method used it isn’t possible to sign up for more than one short event that occurred in a four hour block.

Interesting things to note about our 2014 show:
1) We will not conflict with Super Bowl this year
2) Our event occurs on Family Day Weekend so you will have a day to rest up post event and wont have to rush home Sunday night
3) Ticket package caps will be in place for 2014
4) LAN will increase in size from 120 seats to 180 seats and our LAN area will continue to shut down each night at 4am
5) We are doing our best to address RPG area congestion and noise levels and will increase spacing between tables as well as add drape around area walls to help reduce sound
6) Board game library free play was hugely popular so we are expanding as much as possible

We are always looking for constructive feedback so if you have any please let us know! Thank you – The GottaCon Team

This year we will have “Will Call” which means starting at 1:00pm Friday February 1, 2013 you can come to the entrance to GottaCon 2013 and check in, receive your badge and be told a location where, once the doors open, you will be able to enter the event simply by presenting your pass. Will Call is only available to advance ticket holders. This is in an effort to relieve the line congestion we saw at our 2012 show.

Each round players will have to choose one of 7 board games to play, based on their ranking from the previous round (the first round will be determined randomly, and the second round will be the opposite order of the first round). Players earn points based on their ranking in each game, and at the end of the four rounds, the player with the most points will be crowned champion of the Blitz and invited to the finals held in Toronto at FanExpo. Each round will feature a specific board game company or companies. The possible games for each round are as follows:

5. Settlers of America
6. Vegas Showdown
7. Zombies!!!

Players are not required to have played all (or any) of the games prior to the Blitz, however prior experience with the games will certainly help a player’s chances of success. That being said, there will be people on hand to answer rules questions if needed. The Blitz is a great way to try new games, as well as an even better way to prove to all your gaming buddies that you’re a better board gamer than they are.

Prizes: Our sponsors have provided some prizes and GottaCon has gathered up some additional prizes as well. Each round a random prize will be awarded and there will be prizes for top finishing ranks based on attendance.

*Due to the chosen games, all rounds will be weighted equally (and not according to length, as is normal for the Blitz). Games with shorter play times in the same round as longer games may be played multiple times with placements added up for an overall score to determine points for that round of the Blitz. In the event that multiple players share placements (two players tying for first, etc.) and no tie-break method is provided in the game rules, players will split the round points equally. Example: two players tie for second and second place is worth 4 points, third is worth is worth 3, and fourth is worth 2. The two tied players would each get 3 points, and the fourth place player would still get 2. If you have any questions about the Blitz, please email boardgames@gottacon.com.
SPECIAL EVENT – Werewolf, the social game of intrigue, murder, suspicion, and betrayal
By Knoll Stevenson
Day/time: Sunday at Midnight (In the RPG Area)
Number of participants: 5 to 30

Join me for an opportunity to play the classic Werewolf game, when the werewolves murder by night, but are hunted by day. Each player is randomly assigned a role, that of villager or werewolf. There are also special roles that will be introduced as the game progresses. Each night, the werewolves secretly select a villager to murder. If all the villagers die, the werewolves win the game. Each day, the villagers have an opportunity to gang up on the werewolves and hang one. Getting a majority of people to support the hanging will allow the villagers to kill one player, hopefully it’s a werewolf, but nothing is certain until they are dead. As time passes, numbers dwindle, and if the werewolves aren’t killed, then they will murder the entire village, and move on to the next one.

SPECIAL EVENT – Midnight Madness
Midnight Madness is an RPG event where multiple tables work towards a common goal. Interactions between tables are encouraged and likely required, and cooperation is a must in order to succeed. Midnight Madness games take place in a unique continuity, and pregenerated characters are provided and must be used. The goal for this year’s Midnight Madness is cooperation. The theme is based around a god, Greed, that is looking to destroy the world of mortals. The players will need to avoid temptation and help each other out in order to survive.

By Knoll Stevenson

Standard Action is a comedy-fantasy webseries inspired by table-top roleplaying and video games, and filled with enough nerdy pop culture references to keep everyone from the Tolkein fan to the Trekkie to the Browncoat entertained. The story follows four bumbling, inept adventurers – Edda the Elf Barbarian, Martin the Druid, Gwenevere the Sorcerer, and Fernando the Half-Halfling Bard. Outcast from their parties and not quite epic enough to find new ones, the four adventurers find each other, and embark on a chaotic quest that will test not only their fellowship, but everyone’s ideas of what a hero should be.

Standard Action’s first season of 14 episodes gained critical acclaim for its beautiful art, costumes and cinematography; its quirky characters and intelligent writing; its fantastic monsters; and the high calibre of its acting. And now they’re back for Season 2!

Ken Atkinson has been writing stories for the vast majority of his life. It’s his dream to make it as an author, but anyone with internet access or a fondness for literature can tell you, that’s a rather impractical goal. So, it’s his intent to supplant that with another low-paying art career: graphic design. Hopefully, two starvation-inducing incomes combined will equal one mediocre income. As it stands, his work in both categories is still purely recreational. Nearly a year ago, however, Ken was introduced to ponies. He very quickly fell in love with the characters and the universe, and it was a matter of days before he began to wonder what would happen if he took his fairly dark style and superimposed it over Equestria.
